Packaging Design

Win the shelf. Win the scroll.

Packaging design is the creation of boxes, labels, pouches, bottles and gift packs that protect a product, tell its story and persuade people to buy it. Nebula Brand Labs designs packaging for food, beverage, beauty, personal care, lifestyle and D2C brands — packs that grab attention in a store aisle and on a quick-commerce screen alike.

About the service

Your pack has about three seconds to get noticed and maybe ten more to convince someone. In that time it has to say what the product is, why it's different and why it's worth the price — while carrying all the mandatory information the law requires. Online, it has to do the same job as a thumbnail smaller than your thumb.

We design packaging that balances all of this. We think about the shopper, the shelf, the screen and the printer, so what looks great in a presentation also looks great in the real world.

What's included

  • Category & shelf study — how competitors look in store and online, and where the opportunity lies.
  • Packaging strategy — hierarchy of information, range architecture and variant coding.
  • Concept design — two to three distinct design routes shown on realistic 3D mock-ups.
  • Label & pack artwork — final designs for boxes, labels, sleeves, pouches and bottles.
  • Regulatory layout — FSSAI, MRP, ingredients, barcodes and other mandatory details placed correctly.
  • Print-ready files — artwork prepared to your printer's specifications.
  • E-commerce assets — hero images, listing images and A+ content for marketplaces.
  • Gift & premium packaging — festive packs, hampers and limited editions.

Who it's for

  • D2C and FMCG brands launching a new product or range
  • Food, beverage, beauty and wellness brands
  • Brands moving from online-only to retail shelves
  • Businesses whose packaging feels dated or inconsistent across variants
  • Brands planning festive, gifting or limited-edition packs

Our approach

  1. Understand — We study your product, buyer, price point and the competitive shelf.
  2. Concept — We create distinct routes and show them on 3D mock-ups and next to competitors.
  3. Develop — We refine the chosen route and roll it out across sizes and variants.
  4. Artwork — We prepare final artwork with all mandatory information and check every detail.
  5. Production support — We coordinate with your printer, review proofs and support you until the first batch is right.

Why Nebula for packaging

  • Shopper-first design. We design for the three-second glance, not the boardroom.
  • Retail and online, together. Every pack is tested as a thumbnail as well as a physical product.
  • Print-savvy. We prepare artwork that prints accurately, saving costly reprints.
  • Full brand support. We can also create the launch campaign, shoot and social content for your new pack.

Frequently asked questions

What makes packaging design effective?

Good packaging gets noticed quickly, communicates what the product is in a glance, feels right for its price and is consistent with your brand. It also needs to be practical: easy to open, store and recycle, and simple to print accurately. We evaluate every design against all of these, not just how it looks.

Do you design the packaging structure as well, or just the graphics?

Our core expertise is graphic design for packaging — labels, boxes, sleeves and pouches. For custom structures, such as unique bottle shapes or complex boxes, we work alongside structural designers and packaging manufacturers to bring the idea to life.

Can you include all the legal details on the label?

Yes. We lay out FSSAI licence numbers, MRP, net quantity, ingredients, nutrition tables, manufacturer details, barcodes and any category-specific requirements. You provide the information and approvals; we make sure it's placed correctly and legibly without ruining the design.

Will you handle the printing?

We prepare print-ready files to your printer's specifications and coordinate with them on proofs and colour. If you don't have a printer, we can recommend trusted vendors. We don't mark up print costs — you deal with the printer directly.

How long does packaging design take?

A single product usually takes three to five weeks from brief to final artwork. A full range with multiple variants and sizes can take six to ten weeks. Timelines also depend on how quickly regulatory content and approvals come through.

How do you make sure the packaging looks good on Amazon and quick-commerce apps?

We test every design at thumbnail size, the way shoppers actually see it on Amazon, Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. We also create the listing images, infographics and A+ content that help your product convert online.

We already have packaging. Can you just refresh it?

Yes. Often a refresh — updating typography, colour, hierarchy and photography — delivers most of the impact at a fraction of the cost of a redesign, while keeping the recognition you've built with existing customers.

How much does packaging design cost?

It depends on the number of SKUs, the complexity of the design and whether you need e-commerce assets and production support. We share a clear, fixed quote after understanding your range.
